Hiking, running, swimming every bit of Hong Kong

Author hkoutdooradventures

Iurgi /juːɡɪ/, Spanish (Basque) living in Hong Kong since 2004. My very first day here we hiked up to Lion Rock and since then I have been exploring all around Hong Kong, trail running, open water swimming, etc. Once I find really special places I like to show them to others. I love seeing the “I can’t believe this is HK” faces

Teapot ridge (茶壺咀脊)

Another easier way to go to South Heaven’s Gate (all the routes here). Not as spectacular as Dog’s Tooth version, but suitable for less experienced hikers or those with mild vertigo.

Pipe & Obelisks

Out of the ordinary constructions within Hong Kong landscape. Good for initiation hike or to add to longer routes.

Wo Yang Shan

and the rock forest to arrive at it are one of the most spectacular dry routes up Tai Mo Shan Country Park.

Luk Chau rock forest

There are several rock “gardens” or “forests” in HK. Piles of bare volcanic rocks covering significant areas in the middle of nowhere. Here one of the biggest.

Luk Chau stream

Another alternative plan to Ma Dai stream. You can combine it as a return path for Shek Lung Chai stream, or as main target + bushwalking in the area.

Goose Valley Lost Trail

Goose Valley Lost Trail (雁谷迷徑) is a nice route to connect with the Hunch Backs, here with some adventurous alternatives.

Tai Shing Upper North

I already wrote about the lower & NW sections. The Northern one is almost as fun as the latter and less difficult.

Shoes

If you are looking for fast answers. For wet activities (stream hiking, coasteering) we have been using for years Five Ten & Adidas Terrex Hydro Lace like shoes.

Long Ke coasteering

Relatively protected Bay that allows you to see some of the geopark features and caves without the possible big waves or high scrambles of the East Dam route.
