Small streams going down from Goose Valley Lost trail. Clear water, low flow, bushy & tons of trash at its bottom. One more for the hardcore.
- Beauty/fun: 4/10 Just a few mid size waterfalls, and a few lower ones. Clear water, low flow, bushy & tons of trash at its bottom.
- Difficulty (check this link if new here, this is not your standard HK hiking web): 6.5/10 loose rocks, bushy, not too clear navigation, a few wet scrambling sections, nothing too high.

Watching old footage I realized that I hadn’t uploaded this route. I checked these tributaries long ago, in mid September 2024. Here the brief summary.
There are several small streams coming down from Goose Valley Lost trail towards Ma On Shan. This one is furthest West. I took the MTR to Ma On Shan and jogged to the 信義新村 Shun Yee San Tsuen hamlet (1). I could see in openstreetmaps a path heading to the lower part if the stream but…
Really bushy that way and full of trash, big abandoned truck atop included. In any case, I went down to the stream. Initial trash aside the water was very clear and with several cute mossy areas.
A water gathering tiny pool (0:20) and approx 20 minutes in the stream the first fork (2 – 0:25). A cute small double waterfall where the two tributaries merge. The first time I went on the right side. Several bushy sections moving forward. At (3) a mini fork. I continued on the left side, ribbons there. As you can see in the map I was not exactly where the stream should be. Continuously a bit further a North. I’ll need to do the route a few times to confirm and amend the openstreetmap node. Continuing up the bush gets dense in some sections, without many thorns. At (4 – 1:19) the main waterfall in the tributary. Easy path on its left with nice views of the city under. Upper there was a bit more scrambling. I did it wet us it did not look difficult. But most surely you could avoid it with a bit more bush. Atop a tiny man made water tunnel just under Goose Valley lost trail (5).
I decided to head North East, go down a clear but high bush (ferns in the pic below) path and start the second loop directly on the road (2:25) approx here.
Better option. Go again to the main fork (9 -2:52) and this time head up the left tributary. There is another waterfall a bit upper (3:03) but the flow decreased fast. At 170m it was starting to be completely dry. Some water reappeared at 220m. It was strange to be able to hear the nearby parallel stream and waterfall that I had been in 😅 At (10 – 3:22) a mini line waterfall.
The stream was dry further up. After the big boulder on the right side (3:56), I decided to climb on the left using roots and carefully checking the loose rocks. Connect again with the Goose Valley Lost Trail and this time West direction to arrive at the Ma On Shan Country Park BBQ site. Down the road and usual shortcut to Heng On MTR station.
