Small stream with side fun: a big walled corridor, a slab, tiny tunnel, tons of big rocks. Good to combine with other streams in the area.
- Beauty/fun: 4.5/10 interesting rock formations, but the stream itself has little water flow and no significant waterfalls. Little people hike the upper part and can be therefore more bushy and at some points slightly thorny
- Difficulty (check this link if new here, this is not your standard HK hiking web): 4/10 just slightly confusing navigation if the first time there. With the map you should be able to find all the spots. Very few scrambling spots and relatively low. Just beware of the bush and how deep into the jungle you want to get to check more rocks.

After having so much fun in the nearby Cameron South Creek I decided exploring the nearby streams. That is how I ended up checking Middle Gap creek. Ocean Park MTR station, go up the stairs of the previous day next to the carvings, arrive at the catchwater, turn right and get into the stream. I explore the main stream and also the Left tributary (next post). It was good enough to consider it for future occasions. Several weeks later I went there with Alexa. Even if the weather forecast was saying that was going to be heavy raining, it did not at all and therefore after scrambling the right tributary of Cameron South I decided to bring her to Middle Gap.
Video starting at the bottom (2).
The water flaw was minimal. We climbed in tiny waterfalls just for the fun of it. But you could go on the sides with no problem. In (6 – 0:38) you can find the entry to the corridor on your right side. Ribbons, a tiny rope, in our case even chalk arrows. Nevertheless the “path” was not the obvious for Alexa and a couple of times she turned to the wrong side. The corridor (0:57) is quite pretty and the rocks around would allow you for some climbing fun. Continue in the same direction , turn a bit to the left and you will arrive at the bottom (3 – 1:13) of the “slab” = the huge boulder that is the left wall of the corridor. The scramble up is easy with a crack in the middle.
The first time once up on the the slab, I followed the most obvious ribbons, I got completely out of the stream, path going uphill, and I connected with the stairs (4) on the East. The connection with the catchwater under is not obvious and the first time I went through some animal paths back to the stream (5). Bushy, not recommended, unless you want to check further small boulders around. Spend some time to find ribbons down to the catchwater instead.
On a second round I found the correct way to reconnect with the stream (7), through which I brought Alexa (1:35). Just go to the very end of the slab and through the forest we followed orange colored ribbons. Steep, but relatively easy with tons of tree handholds. As soon as you arrive at the stream, there is a mini tunnel (1:47) that you can cross. And upper there is not much more. We deviated again to check a few more boulders, one forming a tiny tunnel again (2:04). But we were pushing a bit just trying to find fun within the bush. Go back again to the stream and connect with the Hong Kong Trail (8).
Alexa would end here and I would run to Central. On the way I realized that I was early and I checked one final tiny stream: Cameron North Creek.
