Up from the city small stream good for a short outing or to combine with others around. A few nice waterfalls after significant rain.
- Beauty/fun: 4.5/10 after significant rain there are a few nice waterfalls, a nice cliff and the views of the city below.
- Difficulty (check this link if new here, this is not your standard HK hiking web): 5/10 only because a couple of high scrambles in wet rocks, if you go when it looks best. If instead of the regular exit you continue up the main tributary increase to 6.5/10, slippery rock scrambling & bush.

With little time I was trying to explore streams as close to home as possible. So I started on Diamond Hill area. There are a few around. Explore a bit and run back to the MTR or home. Several months later Diana was in town wanting to test her new “stream shoes” (Terrex Daroga; just OKla Continental outsole, good light upper if you liked the Five Ten Knit). Storm forecast, little time again, so up this one. The rationale: low flow enough stream that can handle quite some rain, tons of buildings, electric post high above the stream and even the Observatory atop as lighting rods.
Meet at Diamond Hill MTR Station exit A1 and start walking on the streets towards the cemetery under heavy rain.
Immediately in the water (1). The lower section goes all the time next to several man made structures. It was a bit strange for me the first time I saw it. Old people gathering places, gardens, really close to the cemetery.
A tiny bridge and the first significant waterfall (2 – 0:47). A peculiar one. 45 degree angled but quite slippery. Continue for a while another smaller fall (1:26) and the entry that I guess most hikers use (3).
Little flow concatenated waterfalls just immediately. Beware of the very slippery rocks if trying to climb every fall. Easily avoidable with side scrambles.
Getting into the woods (2:32). The first time the water flow was relatively low here, but this time with the rain it looked way nicer. Beware of the loose rocks. At (4 – 3:21) a quite perpendicular climb with good holds and the first significant fork. Ribbons are on the right side, the water on the left. You can reconnect a bit higher, before separating completely just a few meters after. The first day I climbed first continuously on the left side. It is significantly more difficult than the ribboned right side, with a few slippery waterfalls and a bushy bushy last section due to lack of hiker traffic. This time Diana decided to go through a third partial route 😆. She just followed the water coming down the hill further right. Me at 3:37 telling her that the ribbons where heading left side. We continued her way. Relatively good rock up until eventually we needed to use some tree holding before arriving at the main cliff (3:57)
She was tempted to climb it. I told her that no way completely wet & without a very long rope. Instead we skirted around it and arrived at the top. For the nice picture with the Observatory above. The rest is a dry but potentially muddy hiking path out. She was continuously loosing track of it 😅 Look for ribbons if so and in no time you will arrive at the road.
From there you can go back to the starting point or, as we did, continue with some more fun around. In this case we hiked Ci Sha downstream.
