Convenient little stream good for a short outing with beginners and/or to add to other routes around. Clear water & a few picturesque falls.
- Beauty/fun: 5/10 mainly because of its convenience and the low spectations I had prior to checking it. Decent flow, relatively clear water, cute woods around, just a few waterfalls worth mentioning.
- Difficulty (check this link if new here, this is not your standard HK hiking web): 4/10 short & with several entry and potential early exits, high scrambling and in waterfall completely optional, side paths almost everywhere that would allow you to be mostly dry if you skip the initial golf club area. Only a few sections of very slippery rocks to hike carefully, some potentially bushy areas too.

Early February and with little time I decided to check this stream. I was surprised that it had water in the middle of the dry season. Not bad at all. Video of that day.
The map and the timings refer to that day carefully checking around (there are some hidden treasures 😉 human structures and nice fauna). In early August, I brought a few colleagues to coasteer Middle Island and to stream hike this. The pictures are from that day. Very hot & sunny and without significant rain in the previous 4 days, but nevertheless the flow was very decent.
The closest public transportation is the Deep Water Bay Beach bus stop. Walk for a few minutes next to the golf club and in no time you arrive at the stream. Going down here.
The section next to the golf club has nothing remarkable, but clear water and tons of golf balls (beware of any potentially flying around!)
It starts to get better as soon as you leave the golf ground behind. So you could hike on the parallel hiking path and get into the stream in this “bridge” (2).
The hiking path goes above gas pipelines that are mostly buried. With danger signs in some sections. A relatively clear path, but slightly bushy, and in the upper part, getting close to Deep Water Bay road, with quite some construction trash.
After the aforementioned bridge, you have the nice stream within the woods and only one high waterfall which can be climbed wet within (3). Or easy dry scramble on its right side.
On (4) the path crosses the stream again. Upper a few fallen trees. But relatively easy. This section ends with water handling structures that connect with this catchwater.
The ribbons mark that most hikers leave here. Rocks are quite slippery in this part, but in our case, we continued up. Still a few nice spots en route.
You end up going through a tunnel and then exit directly to the road on the right side. Once there this second time I tried to go up a bit further, but does not deserve the effort. In the video below (from the August visit) at 2:32 you can see the waterfall in the middle pic above. Just a minute from the tunnel. It requires climbing on its right side and then it was quite thorny. So these guys decided to take the easy exit. After, there are only two man-made falls before you arrive at the water discharge tunnel under the Wong Nai Chung Reservoir. The pool under was not appealing at all and I decided to exit through the fitness area.
