There are tons of named rocks in Hong Kong. I will try to keep on adding here those I have visited for those looking for the Instagram pic 😛

It is up to your imagination seeing any kind of things in rocks. Pareidolia in its most basic version, with our brains trying to see patterns and forms. Below I have added several interesting rock formations. In blue exact GPS locations. Green, really close around, but forgot to click on the watch to record it correctly. Red, the rocks are in the vicinity and most surely I have run next to them without marking them properly. Additionally I have added the shortest or easiest path up till there that I know, if it is not clear. Links to hiking in those areas too in the map itself.

Rhino rock might be one of the most Instagram-ed rock that I have seen. Most surely cause it is so accessible. In Stanley Peninsula. Pic from Mr Iñigo.

Close by, Chung Hom Kok peninsula, you have Snoopy rock

and the Devil’s Paw.

In D’Aguilar Peninsula you can find fun boulders to easily scramble on and a kind of shark fin looking rock.

On the North of the Island, overlooking Sai Wan Ho, you can find General Rock also known as Old Man Rock.

Amah Rock in New Territories is similar, pic from 謝嘉豪.

In the Lion Rock area, where you can also see the Horse Ridge (it looks like the chess horse).

Moving to the East we have the biggest of all Penis Rock.

Just a bit more South the Big tree rock in Wong Chung stream.

Above Tai Shui Hang you find the Luk Chau Rock Forest and Canoe and Crocodrile rocks on top (last pics) very close to the MacLehose trail and the Ma On Shan country trail.

In Clear Water Bay you have High Junk peak, but also Green Egg Island

and the second Bread Rock (most well known below)

Further East in Sai Kung you can find another Penis Rock.

In a similar longitude but further North, you can find the Devil’s Fist coming out from the water (in high tide).

Most visitors here come by boat. But there is a dry path option on the top of the hill, quite bushy. Or coasteering on the Northside of the peninsula.

If you are looking for the biggest concentration of peculiar looking rocks and geological formations head to the Hong Kong Badlands. There you have, among others, West to East, the Piglet

and under it the Star rock,

the Bread Rock,

and the Fairy’s Sofa, among others.

In this area you have also peculiar bigger formations, like Ching Chung Hung Yung gully.

There are several interesting rocks also in the smaller islands. Cheung Chau has several. The most well known are not so impressive, like the Reclining Rock.

I like more the Turtle rock

or the one we named Big Brain rock.

In Lamma, you can find more Penises and a PacMan rock.

Waglan, one of the remotest islands, has the “Pig Kisses Dog rocks” on the Northernmost area.

You can only appreciate it from a distance. Otherwise looks just like a tunnel/arch to cross to the opposite shore to.

I will keep on updating this post when I visit or remember more. For example, Beaufort island pending to see Noah’s Ark? Actually in Po Toi… You can see this pic in Colin’s album coasteering the island.

And later we saw it ourselves coasteering there.
