Relatively wide and easy stream good for beginners with some stamina, as it can get a bit long. Only small waterfalls but with nice pools where to take a rest.

  • Beauty/fun: 6.5/10 Wide stream. It does not have high waterfalls, but quite some pools to dip into. Nice looking mossy rock areas.
  • Difficulty (check this link if new here, this is not your standard HK hiking web): 4.5/10 very mildly sloped with simple scrambling until almost the very top. You can do it completely dry. Good grip rocks but in the later part (last 100m elevation gain) also. No early easy exits possible. The one marked on openstreetmap has tons of bamboos and trees down since Sep18 typhoon. Hardly doable with patience and pruning scissors.

Tai Po market MTR and take taxi or mini bus up Wun Yiu road.

The stream runs parallel to the road and rock path above so you can find different entries. The uppermost one is just after the Wong Ancestral Hall next to a water channel gutter.

Not even 25 meters of bush walking to the the stream. There are (Jan 2019) old ribbons around. The stream is wide here.

And relatively easy to navigate. With no high scrambling required.

There are several pools where you can dip into, with tiny waterfalls around. This one the biggest.

There are few places that look like forks. Do not worry. Find whichever is easiest for you. Meanwhile you are next to the water the branches reconnect above.

You can do it dry or wet.

You will start to see bamboos on both sides of the stream, but mainly on your left side. Rice paddies and other human constructions own back by vegetation.

There used to be a connecting path through the “village” (marked on the map) but now is almost impenetrable unless you are fully geared for jungle crossing. Continue up on the main stream till you arrive at the fork marked on the map too. The right tributary has more and newer ribbons. The left option is the best one though. Less damaged by Sep18 typhoon.

This might be the most challenging part of the route.

Slightly bigger rocks to scramble on. A bit more slippery too.

It is a small section anyhow, 100m of elevation gain till you arrive at the hiking path that crosses the stream. Turn left and head down through the path crossing big bamboo sections.

And you will arrive at the starting point. Walk down on the road and soon you will find a mini bus stop.

Everything you should know before stream hiking.
