The marks given to the routes are just a way to classify them. That way you can know which are the paths that we like the most. A 5/10 mark does not mean that the route is not worthwhile doing. It just means that it is less impressive than an 8/10 one.

Beauty relates to its “picturesqueness”. Think high waterfalls with tons of water, dramatic cliffs, highly contrasting colors, etc.

Fun relates to adventure feeling, challenging but doable routes, surprising surfaces or structures, unusual hiking paths. We like scrambling, walking in watercourses, caves, and others here. If the logistic, arriving at the place, is complicated it might deduct some points.

The combination of the two will define the overall mark. That is why, for example, Pat Sin Leng (a really beautiful route that I love running on) is a 6.5 vs Dog’s Tooth and South Heaven (which to the picturesqueness adds the fun of scrambling) is a 8 vs Wong Lung Han (bit more challenging and with the beauty of magnificent waterfalls) which is a 9.5/10. I would recommend all of them if you have time to visit them all, but if you are a visitor here, gear and fitness ready, in a rush and you only have time to hike a route, I would go for the latter.
