A disappointing stream with almost no waterfalls + dense vegetation navigation. You have significantly better options in the area.

I wanted to continue checking the streams in these hills above the MacLehose stage 10. I vaguely remembered dense bush navigation on the top of this one and little more. It looked OK enough to hike with Denvy & Janis, who was back after a serious shoulder injury. Finally way less interesting than hoped.

Same public transportation as the previous post. Bus to the Tuen Mun interchange (there are tons of fast direct buses to here from all over HK) and a second one to the Avignon. We continued on the auxiliary road for a while. Just little after connecting with this concrete section of the MacLehose 10 the entry to the stream.

Go up and start stream hiking.

We could see an old character (0:12 in the video) that I’d see in other streams around. The water flow was lower than expected even at the bottom. Barely a few pools where we could cool down.

A bit after one of the two “remarkable” features of the stream. A big hanging boulder. Denvy Hercules holding it and Janis atop.

There are scrambling sections, but are relatively easy. Unless you are actively looking to challenge yourself. What Denvy was doing. The climb after the hanging rock (0:35) for example is completely optional. Super easy on its left. Eventually (1:27) we arrived at a line waterfall. Long but with little flow.

A little later the vegetation starts to be denser. Around (2) the stream gets indistinguishable, in the satellite images

and real life (1:55). If anything, in the last decade the vegetation has grown and it can take you time to find the completely covered paths. I was able to find them back, reconnecting with the tiny creek several times. There are not much thorns. But beware of those long plants (2:15). This time I poked an eye. In another stream in the area I turned my head and poked my inner ear… They are hard enough to be painful. Janis found that they were very comfortable to lie on (2:38) 😅

After quite some orienteering & bush walking we found the exit path (3) and went downhill through a sandy not specially interesting path.

Everything you should know before stream hiking.
