Nice rocks upstream with surprisingly decent flow and nice rocks too downhill, with the characteristic sandy dirt paths of the area atop.

I had trail run and checked quite some hills & streams around the MacLehose stage 10 long years ago. But at that time I was not properly recording my outings and I was starting to mix them all in my mind. Time to check them again and document them.

After a couple of weeks in Spain, I decided to test this one, Kam Sha, slowly on my own. Bus to the Tuen Mun interchange (there are tons of fast direct buses to here from all over HK) and a second one to the Avignon. I could see different paths up on Openstreetmap. This which looked the most direct starts on the left of a fenced house with barking dogs. But in no time it gets indistinguishable & I ended up bush walking. Video.

Not recommended. You better start a bit more West, path that I did dowhill. In any case, you arrive at the concrete MacLehose section and find the stream entry.

The water flow was not especially good here. Usually streams tend to have significantly more flow at the bottom. But this one was more consistent full route. In no time I arrived at (3 – 0:43) with some nice concatenated waterfalls. I could see a bolted climbing wall on the right side and the skyscrapers below.

The stream is a succession of small waterfalls and flatter sections. With tons of pitcher plans. A bit later it opens up up and you find bigger rock structures and the only waterfall that I did not climb in or next to.

(4) on the map (1:34 in the video), a 3-4m waterfall with a long shallow pool under. I guess you could tricky slippery crag climb on the right. Definitely not for me to try on my own. I took the left side easy bypass instead. Some more big boulders with small waterfalls and pools and little by little you get into the woods (2:12). At (5) a potential exit path. Right & left. I didn’t see it the first time, but there are tons of ribbons. On the East side you can connect in little time with a very clear path down. Instead I continued upstream.

At (6) there is a fork. I took right & immediately after left. The right right looked quite bushy. The water flow diminishes here. You have still several waterfalls and small pools. Some sections that can be very slippery if wet. So it took me a while in one place (2:24) to decide where to climb through.

Around (7) the vegetation increases significantly. Therefore I decided to leave the stream on its left. Next to a tiny tributary. The GPS track is good and there were a few small ribbons to follow up to the connection atop with tons of dirt paths.

I was not sure of which path to go down through. I found one named (九管右脊 the right ridge of Kaw Kwun) and I gave it a try. Good option.

The sandy path has quite some rocks and small slabs around. Interesting way down with the continuous airplanes departing from the airport in front. At (8) there is a bigger kinda triangular rock. Continue downhill. Arrive at the catchwater road and go down next to village houses to the starting point to take bus back. Or in my case job back to the Tuen Mun interchange.

Everything you should know before stream hiking.
