Pleasant stream within the woods with quite some moss. A few deep pools and several easy-to-climb waterfalls, good for an easy day out.
- Beauty/fun: 5.5/10 for the main section. A few nice easy falls, a few deep pools and quite some cute areas with tons of green. Almost no thorns. 3.5/10 for the upper. Less water, little hiked, which means bushier, some thorny and loose rock sections, completely overgrown end before connecting with a main path.
- Difficulty (check this link if new here, this is not your standard HK hiking web): 5/10 even climbing in the waterfalls. I did it downhill with no problem. If you hike the upper section bring full clothes cover and pruners, just in case you need to open your way up through the bush.

As I mentioned in the previous post after hiking up Kau To South stream I went down this one. Denvy was in town with no good shoes, and Enrique was also interested in an outing. I brought them here therefore in the upstream version. Meet in Fo Tan station and concrete walk up for almost 40 minutes before arriving at the stream. I guess you could shortcut a bit by taking a taxi up to the villages around.
Below where we started, there is a big dam with quite some mud. So it is better where we did. Video.
You will find several man-made structures in the initial lower section. A bridge, water channeling concrete structures, a big pipeline. Before arriving at the main pool and waterfalls.
Tons of green picturesque areas. Only one small fork of relevance that I have marked on the second map (2). Just continue on the left side. In the first section, we only found one small area with thorns. At 1:25 in the video the longest of the waterfalls. It is a kind of slider. My first time I downclimbed it directly in the water. With them we scrambled mainly on its left.
At (3) on the map 1:44 the main exit. The easiest option is just to leave here. In our case, we followed several of the ribbons and got back to the stream. This upper section has less water.
Tons of fallen trees. Poor rock quality in some areas (1:59 “cleaning” the scramble). Very bushy atop. A bit of a navigation challenge to find the easiest connection with the main path. From there we tried to find the most direct way down to the road. Nice path with quite some bamboo. But the last section we took, which used to be quite decent, now is not hiked due to several fallen trees (2:44). You might want to take the previous “exit” line that connects with the concrete around (10) on the map.
Bus stop on the road or Tai Po Mei Hang with a huge waterfall just next to it. In the next post.
Another video of me going downstream.
