Tiny stream in the middle of nowhere plunging into the sea. Oxidized iron red water atop. Only for the most hardcore I want to see them all.
- Beauty/fun: 2.5/10 the initial part can look nice after significant rain, but it is relatively short. Really long logistics to arrive there. If it were close it could be a nice short option (5/10) for after heavy rain days.
- Difficulty (check this link if new here, this is not your standard HK hiking web): 5/10. With our conditions, mainly dry initial rocks, the scrambling was easy & fast. But the rocks are extremely smooth and wet, when should look best, it would require a way more careful scrambling. Bring a small rope if with weaker buddies. Upper jungly flat stream hike. Bushy exit with slightly obscure path. If in doubt retrace and try to follow the GPS track and the few ribbons around.

On our way back from Sam A to Bride’s Pool, I saw some streams on the East hill. So I added to the to do list. Checking openstreetmap, I realized that there were several named streams there. Starting from this Ma Niu Ho 馬尿河 that I had coasteered under. Early September we went there.
MTR to University Station and 9am ferry from Ma Liu Shui to Lai Chi Wo. Easy hike and here
mini-coasteering time (in our case high tide around 1.5m that required a chest high wading). Video.
Initially, I was planning to go on Saturday, with rain forecast. But Ben couldn’t join then. Finally it didn’t almost rain in the area that day and we went on Sunday that was completely dry. So barely a trickle in the waterfalls section.
Atop it gets almost completely flat and jungly with the characteristic red water. And bush walk back to the main path through the hill.
It didn’t take us long but a couple of times Ben took the wrong turn. Look for previous hikers traces and trust the GPS. Just after we connected with the main path going towards Bride’s Pool. In our case going up Shek Shui Kan first. Next post.
Sankala post in a good flow day, if you want to check the pics then.
