Checking further the valley of Ho Chung. Decent low-flow tributary with a few nice falls and some surprises to end the stream.
- Beauty/fun: 5/10 after significant rain this stream/tributary looks good with a few high waterfalls, not so hiked so far and therefore slightly more bushy.
- Difficulty (check this link if new here, this is not your standard HK hiking web): 5/10 a few sections of high scrambling but with good footholds even within the waterfalls, bushy, a few not clear forks where to decide your way. Short but without easy potential early exits in the main section.

Another heavy rain day (70+ mm), another day in the same valley checking on my own. This time the stream overflowed and I could not start at my original entry target, the bridge (0 on the map). Video.
So I went up the concrete path to almost Ngau Pui Wo village. Beware that they have an alarm set just on the bridge above the stream… Anyhow, I got in next to it. Still quite messy flow, but doable (0:09). This first section doesn’t have anything remarkable. Just a few old man-made walls and very small falls.
BTW, yes, I’m wearing a sock on my hand. In case you were wondering while watching the video. We were in the middle of moving apartments and I could only find one glove in the boxes. Therefore I used a broken sock as a “mitten” 🤷♂️ Not the best option, but completely necessary, considering all the vegetation, some thorny areas included. I had only the GoPro too. No waterproof casing for the phone. So no decent pics.
Going back to the route itself. The stream is crossed by a low bridge first and later you can go through a short tunnel under the road, before a small dam (0:33). Nothing interesting below.
After are all the significant waterfalls. There is a cute one with a small cave on its left (3 – 1:04). A bit later the highest (around 4 on the map 1:34), which can be climbed within with normal flow. I did it on its right side easily.
There are several forks en route, sometimes with ribbons in both tributaries. I would suggest to follow my GPS track. The upper you go the lesser the flow in all. But here I found the weirdest “trash” ever. A full dismantled car.
And extra tires… 🤦♂️
Eventually the stream finished and I hiked on a relatively clear(ly hiked semi)path to exit to Fei Ngo Shan Road just a few minutes later. Around here.
This Sankala post if you want to watch pictures on a more normal flow day.
