Lau Pak Sui (流白水) is a 60-80m concatenation of waterfalls. A beauty that requires good weather conditions + coasteering & bushwalking.
- Beauty/fun: 7.5/10 very pretty waterfall plunging into the sea, clear water, good scrambling. Relatively short with complex logistics.
- Difficulty (check this link if new here, this is not your standard HK hiking web): 7/10 if trying to be as cautious as possible. Increase several notches if you want to climb in most of the waterfalls. The coastline is very exposed to swell and wind waves.

Since the last time we coasteered from Long Ke to Sai Wan I had this stream in the to do list. But ideal conditions there are not simple. I was looking for a day after significant rain days (100mm+ accumulated) so that there would be good flow. But also with no chances of storm within the day. Neither too hot, strong wind or swell. Late May we got our window of opportunity. Full week of significant rain in the area (10-50mm daily) and completely flat sea.
Public transport + taxi to Sai Wan Pavilion. 30 minutes concrete hike to Sai Wan beach & coasteering start.
First stop on the bottom of Organ creek.
Volcanic pillars with a very low flow stream. We just took the picture on the waterfall and continued to the “main course” of the day.
White waterfall at its best with tons of flow. Even thermoclime on the bottom 😊 (1:10 in the video). You can climb continuously on them or very close to the waterfalls themselves, as these guys did (all decent climbers wearing Five Tens). Significantly easier scrambling on the right side of the waterfalls. Nevertheless there are a couple of spots initially that can be tricky if without good grip shoes and some experience. At the first two leves(1:12-1:23). There were a couple of guys there to whom I showed how to do it easiest. They were not sure initially. Bring a 20m thin rope just in case if bringing weaker buddies.
The upper you go the easier it gets. Eventually it flattens (2:07) and you start to get into the vegetation. There are still two significant waterfalls and a nice pool
before it gets bushier and you need to bushwalk exit. To a more clear path (you can see it in the satellite image) and connection with MacLehose trail after.
I have marked the fastest exit on the map through the green line on MacLehose in reverse direction to the taxi and minibuses on the East Dam. In our case we full looped going down Organ Pit. Explained in the next post.
Video with drone footage and smaller water flow.
Everything you should know before stream hiking and coasteering.
