Cheung Chau offers a picturesque coastline perfect for coasteering. In addition South West section is relatively easy.

See full screen & Garmin track.

The usual transport includes ferries departing from Central every 30 minutes (slow approx 55min and fast approx 35min, every hour). Once on the destination pier walk SE direction.

In less than 15 minutes you will arrive at the Tin Hau temple.

The temple on your back and the coast where to be walking on in front.

Initial mini beach included.

Soon you will start scrambling

or jumping into the water.

The scrambles are relatively easy.

And you can find nice water coves, but… Full of plastic ones too.

You might find ropes helping you out through early exits used by fishermen and others (one marked on the map) before arriving at the Turtle Rock.

Continuing

up and down.

Some crag lateral scrambles.

Interesting looking rocks all around.

Including this “big brain” rock (?)

A trickier scramble just for the fun of doing it.

There are some nice cliff jumping points, but beware. This for example was not deep as we arrived there exactly with the lowest tide possible.

Another interesting rock formation,

with a tunnel that you can walk through to the opposite side. Miguel just above.

Before arriving at Pak Tso Wan. Little beach and early exit concrete path.

In this area you can see quite more people walking in the paths above. We under Reclining Rock.

In this area you have several boulders to walk under too.

Before arriving at the end, within the port.

We went back up the small hill to visit Cheung Po Tsai Cave. The entrance is here.

There is a metal ladder to go down and soon you are in the darkness (torch required).

Not a long cave/tunnel but not for those claustrophobic either.

Supposedly used by the pirates in the old age. We could have gone up through the tunnel itself (opposite direction from where people usually go through) as connected with the previous coasteering route. But there was quite some people that day, so better go with the flow.

Once we finish the little detour return to the ferry with tons of restaurants and others on the way.

Everything you should know before coasteering.
