Chung Hom Kok peninsula offers an easy coasteering route, a trickier dry scrambling version and tons of peculiar rocks around.

  • Beauty/fun: 5.5/10 Part of the coasteering has interesting rocks, but big chunks are a bit boring.
  • Difficulty (check this link if new here, this is not your standard HK hiking web): 6/10 The swimming/wading points are few even if you want to avoid all the tricky scrambling areas, tends to have smaller waves than other zones, as protected by Stanley peninsula. We usually enjoy some trickier scrambles. You could do it completely dry till the mid point in low tide, but it is significantly more difficult, if so: 7/10 as there are, at least, a couple of tricky high cliffs to be scrambling on. 3/10 for the bushwalking section.
  • The map (how to download to your phone)

See full screen and the Garmin track of the coasteering route.

You have different transportation options to the start. Several buses will leave you around the roundabout.

Head forward down to the little beach down. Beware of the barking dogs there and start walking on the rocks in the right side.

In no time you will find a WW2 bunker.

People come to this area for bouldering.

Several tunnels to go through.

Arriving to the tricky section marked on the map. If you are ready to swim it is very simple. If you wanna keep dry you will be hanging on the rocks

on smallish footholds.

And you would need to go quite high. In this area you have already the first “good” cliff jumping points. Just be careful with the spots and the distance.

Moving forwards you will start to see peculiar rocks.

You have tons of different options in this area. You can go through different tunnels up and down on the rocks (video below for reference). Or just swim. If you want to continue completely dry you will need to go up those rocks.

Or use ropes set by previous groups in the lower tide (check carefully always before doing so!).

Arriving at the

mid-way exit.

Update 2021: First times there I did not realize that there was a second pillbox nearby (you can see it above on the left) and from there you can go down SE direction to a big cave (crag in the pic next to the coasteering route). Marked on the map. Short view of it in the last video of this Instagram post and the entrance from the coasteering version exactly at 3:02 at Tyler’s video (crevice on the right side of the screen).

If you continue coasteering you will need to get wet.

Although there are a bit boring areas with smaller rock “beach”.

Finally you will arrive at the beach.

Video with most you would see while coasteering.

Everything you should know before coasteering.

Dry version. After the mid way exit you could have some extra fun up the hill. Find the way up the stairs in front of the Nursery Home.

Do not continue for too long on the concrete or you will end up in some abandoned buildings.

Instead, check for ribbons guiding you into the bush. After little time you will arrive at a relatively easy path.

With Snoopy rock in front.

There are several interesting rocks around. The most wellknown are the previous and Devil’s Paw.

Both marked on the map.

A lot of things to explore in the peninsula.
