A piece of coastline absolutely only recommended for those who want to check it ALL 🙋♂️😅 Saikung clear water and a little more here.
- Beauty/fun: 1/10 tons of wading, not a single interesting rock formation, quite some trash. You can see tons of fish, crabs, and other fauna around.
- Difficulty (check this link if new here, this is not your standard HK hiking web): 2/10 highest scramble below 2m, completely swell protected, short, and with several early exits and wet shortcuts.

While coasteering East Ko Lau Wan I realized that I had only one piece of the rocky coastline missing to finish all the Hong Kong peninsula and major islands. This little part that I didn’t coasteer after West Ko Lau Wan: Tung Sam Kei (東心淇) peninsula. I was 99% sure that it was going to have nothing interesting… But me being me… Saturday, Summer super early wake up because of work… I took advantage to enjoy super-fast public transportation to Pak Tam Au. Usually, the bus takes 90 minutes. 40 minutes that time without any traffic and with few stops en route. Plenty of time to get everything ready, WC, and slow jog down
to the coastline.
Mangrove start. Rocks after, but very flat. Almost no scrambling is required and the highest is below 2m. In almost the Northernmost point you have a couple of diving centers with a pier and the stairs up to the hiking path out.
From there you can already see Wong Shek pier and people enjoying the different activities offered by the Water Sport Center.
The last bay after Lan Kok Tsui is a mangrove area again.
I found a little garden (2:20), a small creek, and a path next to the coastline. Ending in a cute newish house, partially demolished by a recent landslide… Pier and more mangroves before arriving at the Water Sport Center, bathroom, and bus back.
